Background Information
Galileo Galilei grew up in Pisa, Italy and moved to Padua in the year 1592. He went to the University of Pisa in 1581-1585 to study medicine, but he failed because he was interested more in mathematics. He began tutoring people in the subject of math in 1585 and continued to do so for the next four years before taking the chair of mathematics and the University of Pisa in 1589. He was rewarded a professorship in mathematics from his university. He taught until 1610, when his telescope discoveries landed him at the duke of Tuscany. He traveled to Rome a year later to portray his telescopic findings. Galileo found that the moon was covered with craters from looking through his telescope.

Background Information
Galileo spent the last years of his life in Arcetri, Florence in his villa. He sadly turned blind in 1638, and when he passed away, his remains were buried in the Church of Santa Croce (located in Florence as well). During his lifetime, Galileo made many important contributions to physics, specifically kinematics and mechanics.
